Goals:
Students will learn about use of space
    not everything should sit at the very bottom of the page
    spread things across the entire page
    overlap things
Students will understand that there are a variety of forms of architecture.
Students will create a cityscape using primary colors.
Students will creatively cut paper creatures in secondary colors and add them to their primary colored paintings.

Time-Line: (after researching their world issue the week before)
    Day One:Introduce Project: presentation on cityscapes and space
    Day Two: Begin drawing cityscapes
    Day Three: Finish Drawing, work on painting
    Day Four: Students will continue painting
    Day Five: Students will finish painting
    Day Six: Students will see a presentation on creatures and creativity
    Day Seven: Students will draw monsters on construction paper
    Day Eight: Students will cut and glue their monsters onto their paintings.

Daily Breakdown:

Day One Goal:Introduce Project: presentation on cityscapes and space
1: Welcome
2: Expectations for presentation (sit quietly, participate when asked)
3: Introduce cityscapes, show a powerpoint that has different shapes and styles of buildings, and talks about foreground, middle ground and background
4: Goal for today is to help the students understand space and that buildings come in all shapes and sizes.
4: Close class - Next time we will begin sketching - think about what you want to do

Day Two Goal: Begin drawing cityscapes
1: Welcome
2: Remind of presentation on cityscapes and use of space
3: Goal for today is to sketch out their cityscapes
4: Expectations for work time (stay in seat, work quietly, may chat with neighbors at a quiet level)
Clean-up: let them know that they should put their drawings in their table folders and then on the table to go in the teacher folder. They should also know that they need to put their pencils away.
   

   

Day Three Goal: Finish Drawing, work on painting
1. Welcome
Remind the class about the project goals, foreground, middle, background, and let them know they need to finish drawing today.
Demo painting - talk about Primary colors
4. Expectations for work time (stay in seat, work quietly, may chat with neighbors at a quiet level)
Clean-up: 6 minutes - then let them know that they should put their paintings in the drying rack, help clean up tables, and put brushes in the sink.


Day Four Goal: Students will continue painting
        1: Welcome
2: Everyone should be painting. Reminding them about primary colors only!
3: Goal for today is to make some good headway on their paintings. Remind the students about painting carefully
4: Expectations for work time (stay in seat, work quietly, may chat with neighbors at a quiet level)

Clean-up: 6 minutes - then let them know that they should put their paintings in the drying rack, help clean up tables, and put brushes in the sink.

Day Five Goal: Students will finish painting

1. Welcome
2. Remind the class about sketches yesterday
Goal for the day - we will begin building sculptures.
Demo: Sculpture basics
Remember to talk about balance (structurally and visually)
Remember to mention small on top is easiest.
Remember to mention to use a large base (w/ weight)
4: Expectations for work time (stay in seat, work quietly, may chat with neighbors at a quiet level)
If students forgot materials, have them write a paragraph on why it is important to be prepared for class, then sketch.
    - If students can’t afford materials, use classroom supplies.
Clean-up: 6 minutes - then let them know that they should put their paintings in the drying rack, help clean up tables, and put brushes in the sink.

Day Six: Students will see a presentation on creatures and creativity
1. Welcome
Remind the class about behavior during presentations
Give out paper, divided into sections
4: go through creativity give creature examples, and then give “challenges” (Draw an alien with 5 eyes, and 6 arms/legs)

5: If there is time left, let them draw their own monsters.



Day Seven: Students will draw creatures on construction paper
1. Welcome
Talk about creativity and creatures
Talk about secondary colors (these are what they will be using for monsters)
5: Have them draw numerous different monsters (SMALL MONSTERS)
Clean-up: 5 minutes - tell them where to put their scraps and where to put their artwork.

Day Eight: Students will cut and glue their monsters onto their paintings.
1. Welcome
2.Talk about careful cutting and gluing
Tell them to think about where their creatures will go on their artwork
Clean-up: 5 minutes - put finished work on the drying rack
