Artifact: Washington Crossing the Delaware, Essay, Art 302, Summer 2009

Rationale Content
In this paper, I discuss an activity which incorporates various teaching strategies, and subjects, into the art classroom. The paper, which was completed as a reflection on an inspirational activity from the Art 302 course, also demonstrates how I plan to, in the future, incorporate verbal, written, and hands on learning into my classroom, through the use of art history and historic art documents.

Analysis
This artifact shows my proficiency in knowledge of how students learn as I present numerous teaching strategies into the art classroom through an extended learning project. This project not only incorporates the numerous ways that students learn (visual, verbal, hands-on, etc.) but also discusses how an experience can help a student to learn for retention.

Reflection
I feel that this artifact shows my knowledge of teaching as I discuss a variety of ways in which students learn, incorporate individual lessons which fall under a larger unit theme, and collaborate art with other subjects, such as social studies and Engilsh, through the use of art history and writing about an art piece. I also incorporate different strategies through classroom discussion, individual work, and presentation by the students to each other (peer to peer learning).  These show that I have retained a variety of different methods to use and incorporate into an art classroom in order to help students learn and retain information far into the future.
In the future, I will continue to improve my knowledge of teaching by attending professional development as often as possible after I obtain a job. I also plan to continually reexamine my teaching strategies and look for new/different ways to organize an art classroom. Also, I plan to continue to take art classes, as I believe that, especially with art, a lot can be learned about teaching by being taught. In this way, I can not only learn new media, but also evaluate my teachers approach to teaching, and decide what I believe would/would not work in my classroom. Additionally, I plan to remain in contact with fellow educators and art educators alike to continually learn new strategies for teaching. I will also do my best to stay up to date on new and improving technologies that may assist me in my classroom and make continuity of learning more possible in any circumstance. Finally, I plan to keep researching new information on teaching and reading new strategies for teaching to attempt to keep my classroom performing at its peak ability.
