Danceworks

Digital Photography by Bethany Marie

These images were taken at the performance of Danceworks at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. Dance has been a huge part of my life since I was very young. I began dancing at the age of 5 and have never stopped. I try to make most of my photography of dance VERY bright, because I feel that all too often, dance photography is static and stiff, and completely the opposite of what dance is.  I try to show the energy that the dancers are putting forth through these bright and energetic colors. I also enjoy doing slow-shutter photography of dancers in order to give the photographs a "history," each one showing a few seconds of the performance, each capturing more than just one stiff moment.

These images were also featured in my piece "Fragmented Motion" as part of an exhibition at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Gallery.
